One Pencil is an American 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We support indigenous populations in Africa and South America by providing educational resources to students in communities that are transitioning to the market economy. Students within the communities supported by One Pencil participate in transformative research in the fields of Anthropology, Psychology and Economics, as scientists (including several members of our Board of Directors) explore fundamental questions about the way in which humans learn.

One Pencil has forged partnerships with local leaders, NGOs, and policy makers to support educational programs, community development projects, and provide disaster relief. Current partners include local leaders from the HIZETJITWA Indigenous Peoples Organisation (HIPO) & Ondao Mobile Schools in Namibia, and The Tsimane Gran Consejo & The Tsimane Health and Life History Project in Bolivia.
